Shelving is measured to the books, not the other way round. We ask for a count by height before drawing a single bay, so octavos, folios and records each get a shelf that fits.
Panelling conceals what a study needs and a library does not want to see: radiators, cabling, a door to the next room. Ladders run on brass rails that are fitted, not surface-mounted.
